Notice is hereby given that Greenbrier Smokeless Coal Mining, LLC, 100 Bill Baker Way, Beckley, WV 25801 has a permit on file with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the surface mining of approximately 745.8 acres and has submitted an application to the DEP, 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840, for renewal of Article 3 Permit Number S300617 to surface, contour and highwall mine in the Fire Creek, Pocahontas No. 8, Pocahontas No. 7, Pocahontas No. 6 and all splits and rider seams thereof seams of coal. The operation is discharging into unnamed tributaries of/and South Fork of/and Big Clear Creek, and Unnamed Tributaries of/and Little Clear Creek, all of Meadow River of Gauley River and is located 4.0 miles, northeast of Rupert in Meadow Bluff District of Greenbrier County, Longitude 80° 38’ 13” and Latitude 38° 00’ 32” (Coordinates from USGS Topographic Map).

Written comments and/or requests for an informal conference of the permit renewal application shall identify the applicant and application number and will be received by the Permit Supervisor at the DEP address above until February 17, 2024, or thirty (30) days from the date of final publication in the DEP Regional Office located at the address above and is available at:
