SECOND PUBLIC MEETING

Brush Creek Site 12

Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment

Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia

The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), in coordination with the Southern Conservation District, West Virginia Conservation Agency and Mercer County Commission as the Local Sponsors, is proposing the Rehabilitation of the Brush Creek Site 12 Watershed Dam in Mercer County, West Virginia, under authority of the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act (Public Law [PL] 83-566).

The undertaking is proposed for the Brush Creek Site 12 Watershed Dam to: 1) bring the structure into compliance with current West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Dam Safety regulations, 2) maintain the prevention of flood damages, and improve public safety.

In cooperation with the Local Sponsors, the NRCS is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to consider and analyze potential impacts from the action. Therefore, in accordance with 54USC§306108 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and 36CFR§800.3(c) NRCS seeks your participation in the planning process.

This is the second of three meetings where agencies are encouraged to engage in the process of preparing the EA. The meeting will present the findings of completed studies to date including potential rehabilitation alternatives for Brush Creek Site 12. Additionally, this meeting will solicit input from the public and agencies on items and concerns that they want to be considered in evaluations and answer questions about the planned activities. Representatives from NRCS, West Virginia Conservation Agency, Mercer County Commission, the Southern Conservation District, and the technical consulting team will be present to answer questions about the project and process. Federal funding has been received to assist the Local Sponsors in developing this EA but has not yet been secured for design or construction.

This meeting will be a hybrid in-person and virtual Zoom meeting occurring at the Gardner Center located at 241 Mercer Springs Road, Princeton, WV 24740 on March 26, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
