Town of Ansted
Public Meeting

The Town of Ansted will hold a public meeting at 6:00 P.M. on March 28, 2024 to discuss the proposed improvements to the sewage collection and treatment facilities. The Town of Ansted has experienced various problems with its wastewater collection and treatment system and is seeking funding to repair, upgrade and expand those facilities from several state and federal funding sources.

The Town of Ansted operates a 230,000 gpd sewage treatment plant. The wastewater treatment plant, which discharges to Mill Creek and the New River (inside of the National Park), must be upgraded to maintain WV NPDES permit compliance. Improving Ansted’s sewage treatment plant is critical, given its impact on the New River Gorge National Park.

The Town of Ansted’s wastewater collection system’s gravity sewers currently experience excessive infiltration/inflow that accounts for much of the treated flows. Correcting the deficiencies includes replacement of several gravity sewer pipes & manholes. In addition, there are multiple areas functioning as combined sewers. These areas would be separated into storm sewers and sanitary sewers.

The improvements to the treatment plant and the collection system (infiltration/inflow issues) are anticipated to be funded by combinations of grant and loan funds that will be provided by the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) Grant with CDS Match, CWSRF Principal Forgiveness Loan, WDA Economic Enhancement Fund Grant, and a grant from the WV Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council (WV IJDC).

The meeting will take place in Town Council Chambers, located at 104 Cemetery Street, Ansted, WV 25812.
