NOTICE OF PROPOSED
CONVEYANCE
OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY
(Thompson Chapel United
Methodist Church)

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will, on or after April 10, 2024 QUITCLAIM, GRANT AND CONVEY to Trustees of Thompson Chapel those certain lots or parcels of land, situate in Beaver Pond District, Mercer County, West Virginia, and bounded and described as follows, to-wit:

PARCEL ONE

BEGINNING at a stake on the road side just westward of the line between said W. H Thompson: and A.W. Sublett thence’ Northward l2 rods to a stake, thence Eastward to the said’ division line thence with said division line South ward to said road, thence westward with said road to the beginning.

And being the same property conveyed from W. H. Thompson etux to Trustees of the Thompson Methodist Episcopal Church, South, by Deed dated September 5, 1902 and recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Mercer County, West Virginia in Deed Book 51, at Page 95, reference to which is hereby made.

PARCEL TWO

BEGINNING at a stake on the road side just Eastward of the line between said A. W. Sublette and W. H. Thompson thence Northward 10 rods and 8 feet to a stake, thence Westward to and division line thence Southward with said division line to said road, thence Eastward with the North line of the road to the beginning.

And being the same property conveyed from A. W. Sublette etux to Trustees of the Thompson Methodist Episcopal Church by Deed dated September 5, 1902 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 51, at Page 97, reference to which is hereby made.

PARCEL THREE

BEGINNING at the northeast corner of the present church lot, said beginning point being N. 27° 00’ W. 198.0 feet distant from the north line of the Cumberland. Gap and Fincastle Turnpike road; thence with the rear or north line of the present church lot, S. 65° 30’ W. 64.0 feet to a point, said point being the northwest corner of the present church lot; thence N. 26° 00’ W. 25.4 feet to a point; thence N. 63° 00’ E. 64.0 feet to a point; thence S. 27° 00’ E. 25.0 feet to the point of Beginning, containing sixteen hundred (1600) square feet, more or less.

And being the same property conveyed from Don A. Harry etux to Trustees of Thompson Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church by Deed dated March 7, 1957 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 358, at Page 139, reference to which is hereby made.

PARCEL FOUR

BEGINNING at a point in the westerly, fence line, in a line of lands of Roy L. f Lyons and in the north right of way line of Cumberland Gap and Fincastle Turnpike; thence leaving said road right of way and running along said Lyons land, N 13° 20’ W 775.92 feet to a fence post at a corner of the boundary of West Virginia Water Service Company; thence continuing along a line of said Water Service Company, N 53° 00’ E 135.73 feet to a point about 10 feet north of present fence, (the fence having been placed south account of some cliffs); thence leaving boundary of said Water Service Company and running through the land of Don A. and June C. Harry, S 27°OD’ B 519.18 feet to a point, a corner of Thompsons Chapel of the Methodist Church; thence continuing along said Church lot, S 63° 00’ W 64.00 feet to a point; thence S 26° 00’ E 270.00 feet, more LAW OFFICES or less, to a point in the Cumberland Gap and Fincastle Turnpike right of way line; thence leaving said Church lot and running along a line parallel to and 30 feet north of center line of said Turnpike, about 216.00 feet to the BEGINNING (a survey of the centerline of said road being as follows: Beginning at the point in Cumberland Gap and Fincastle Turnpike northerly right of way; thence S 26°00’ E 30.00 feet to centerline; thence, S 41° 10’ W 86.00 feet to a point in said centerline; thence S 60° 52’ W 88.3 feet to a point in said centerline; thence N 87° 38’ W 102.00 feet to a point in said centerline; thence leaving said centerline, N l3° 20’ W 30.00 feet to the point of beginning); CONTAINING 3.76 acres, more or less.

And being the same property conveyed from Don A. Harry etux to Trustees of Thompson Chapel Methodist Church by Deed dated March 12, 1962 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 358, at Page 139, reference to which is hereby made.
SAID Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church was declared closed effective February 2, 2024 by a vote of a majority of the District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
