NOTICE THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE COUNTY OF WAYNE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS CLOSURES OF GENOA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO BE HELD AT GENOA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND DUNLOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO BE HELD AT DUNLOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DATES, PLACES AND START TIMES OF PUBLIC HEARINGS: Genoa Elementary School Hearing will be held on December 16, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. at Cafeteria ofGenoa Elementary School, 21269 Route 152, Genoa, West Virginia 25517 Dunlow Elementary School Hearing will be held on December 17, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cafeteria of Dunlow Elementary School, 32800 Route 152, Dunlow, West Virginia 25511. In the event the public hearing is not completed by 11:00 p.m. on the scheduled date, it will be recessed and will be reconvened on December 19, 2019, at the location from which the public hearing was recessed, to begin at 5:00 p.m. All reconvened public hearings shall also be recessed at 11:00 p.m., if not completed, and reconvened in the same manner until the public hearing is completed. ALTERNATE PLACES/DATES OF THE PUBLIC HEARINGS: In the event a scheduled hearing on December 16 and/or 17 must be cancelled due to inclement weather or other factors beyond control of the Board, December 19, 2019, is established as an alternate date, at the same time and location as the public hearing was originally scheduled to occur. If, for whatever reason that facility is deemed not to be in compliance with Policy 6204, Section 2.3.2 on either December 16th, December 17th or December 19th, related to accessibility of the location, parking at the location, occupant capacity, and other similar factors, the hearing will be moved to Wayne High School. PROPOSED ACTION OF THE BOARD: The closure of Genoa Elementary School and Dunlow Elementary School to be effective at the end of the 2019-2020 school year with the reassignment of Genoa Elementary and Dunlow Elementary School students, commencing with the 2020-2021 school year, to the Dunlow/Genoa Community Elementary School at the site of the current Dunlow Elementary School. The vote on all school closures will be conducted at the conclusion of the final public hearing. SUBMISSION OF WRITTEN MATERIALS: Written materials must be physically received in the Office of the Superintendent, Wayne County Schools, 212 North Court Street, Wayne, West Virginia 25570, by noon on December 16, 2019, or delivered to the board during public comment at the public hearings during the public’s comments. WRITTEN REASONS AND SUPPORTING DATA: Written reasons and supporting data, in relation to the proposed closure of Genoa Elementary School and Dunlow Elementary School, will be available for inspection at Genoa Elementary School, Dunlow Elementary School and in the Office of the Superintendent, Wayne County Schools, Wayne, West Virginia for a period of thirty (30) days, immediately prior to the date of the public hearing. SUBMISSION OF WRITTEN MATERIALS BY THE PUBLIC – Written materials must be physically received in the Office of the Superintendent, Wayne County Schools, 212 North Court Street, Wayne, West Virginia 25570, by noon on December 16, 2019, or delivered to the board during public presentations/comments at the public hearing for Genoa and/or Dunlow Elementary Schools. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: Members of the public may be present, submit statements and testimony, and question county school officials. Members of the public who desire to submit statements and testimony or to question county school officials, shall be afforded with an opportunity to register, beginning one hour prior to the start of the public hearing and ending at the start of the public hearing. Persons shall not be permitted to register at any reconvened public sessions. Persons shall be called upon in the order of registration. All questions shall be initially directed to the Superintendent who may answer the question or designate another school official to address the question. Based upon the number of persons who register, the presiding officer may limit, in a uniform manner, the time allotted to each individual. However, the time allotted may not be limited to period of less than three minutes. Registered individuals may not assign or relinquish their allotted time to another individual. Responses to questions by school officials shall not be included in a period of allotted time. Written materials may be submitted by the deadline indicated above. LH-83297 11-30;12-7,14;2019
