Monongalia County Awarded Federal Funds

MONONGALIA COUNTY HAS BEEN AWARDED FEDERAL FUNDS MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS)/FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY UNDER THE EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER NATIONAL BOARD PROGRAM.

Monongalia County has been chosen to receive $27,413 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army; American Red Cross; Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; and, the United Way of America. The Local Board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county.

The Local Board will determine how the funds awarded to Monongalia County are to be distributed to emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program. The priorities for Phase 32/2015 are: 1) Utilities, 2) Rent/Mortgage, 3) Other Food, 4) Mass Shelter, 5) Served Meals, 6) Other Shelter, 7) Rehab/Emergency Repairs, and 8) Supplies/Equipment.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, 5) have a valid DUNS number, 6) have a valid email address, and 7) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

The deadline for applications to be received is Monday, April 6th by 4:00 pm to Amy Skeens at the United Way of Monongalia & Preston Counties office located at 278C Spruce St., Morgantown, 26505.
