PUBLIC NOTICE OF BLASTING OPERATIONS
Notice is hereby given that Mountaineer Contractors Inc., 15237 S Preston Hwy Kingwood, WV 26537, (304)329-2129, with the assistance of Beckley Drilling & Blasting Services, Inc., P.O. Box 1907 Beaver, WV 25813, (304)256-8385, will be conducting blasting activities on WV Rt 2.
Federal Project NO. NFA-2617(009).
State Project NO. U354-2-23.11 07.
The project is located in Wood Co. approximately 1.30 miles east from Interstate 77 on WV Route 2. All blasting activities shall be conducted in accordance with all federal and state laws and procedures.
All blasting shall be conducted during daylight hours as defined as sunrise to sunset, but no blasting will take place between the hours of 7 am to 9 am & 2pm and 5pm. The specific blasting time will be coordinated with the Blaster in Charge and Mountaineer Contractors. Blasting is anticipated to start in June 2022 and will be conducted Monday through Friday. Prior to the firing of each blast, all persons in the danger area will be warned of the blast and ordered to a safe distance. The blast will not be fired until it is certain that every person has retreated to a safe distance and that no one remains in a dangerous location.
Prior to blasting, a three (3) minute warning signal audible to a range of one half (1/2) mile from the blast will be given. This will consist of three (3) long warning signals of five (5) seconds duration with five (5) seconds between each signal. After detonation of the blast, the “all clear” signal shall be given with the warning signal audible to a range of one half (1/2) mile from the blast will be given by sounding it once continuously for a ten (10) second duration.
Blasting shall be conducted in such a way so as to prevent adverse impacts to the public or the environment.
Blasting activities will not be conducted at times other than those announced in this blasting schedule except in the event of an emergency situation where rain, lightning, or other atmospheric conditions, or operator or public safety requires unscheduled detonations.
A public meeting will be held at Waverly Volunteer Fire Dept. 15425 Emerson Ave. Waverly, WV 26184 on June 23rd(6/23/22) from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to review the plan and answer any questions.
