CITY OF ELKINS

The City of Elkins Common Council is considering an amendment to the Elkins City Charter as authorized by West Virginia Code section 8-4-8. The proposed amendment would eliminate a prohibition against the Mayor of Elkins serving in more than one elected office at a time.

This amendment is available for review at www.cityofelkinswv.com. Printed copies of this amendment are also available at Elkins City Hall or by calling the City Clerk at 304-636-1414, ext. 1211.

Council will conduct a public hearing regarding the proposed amendments at the Elkins City Hall on November 2, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. During this hearing, the Elkins Common Council will welcome and receive comments, objections, and suggestions regarding the proposed amendment from any qualified voter or freeholder of the City of Elkins. Persons unable to attend the hearing may submit to the City Clerk written comments, objections, and suggestions regarding the proposed amendment. Written submissions will be accepted until the public hearing is convened and will be included in the record to be considered by Council.

Any qualified voter or freeholder may make written comments, suggestions, or objections to the proposed amendment. If no objections are filed, or if objections filed are withdrawn at the time of the hearing or within ten days after the hearing, Council may take final action by enacting by ordinance the amendment, to be effective no sooner than ten days following the public hearing.

Informal questions regarding this process and the amendments are welcome. Point of contact is the City Clerk at 304-636-1414, ext. 1211.
