VIRTUAL PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE CHEMOUR COMPANY FC, LLC’S APPLICATION FOR A WEST VIRGINIA NPDES WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PERMIT

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Water and Waste Management is holding a virtual public hearing for the Chemours Company FC, LLC’s application for a West Virginia NPDES Water Pollution Control Permit for its facility in Washington, Wood County, West Virginia. The application proposes to acquire, construct, install, operate, and maintain wastewater treatment disposal systems for the direct discharge of process wastewater and non-contact cooling water from Outlet 008 to the Ohio River at Mile point 190.8. Wastewater treatment shall consist of three (3) granulated activated carbon beds in series, a nitrate treatment system, pH neutralization, and dechlorination. An antidegradation review has been conducted and Tier 2 and Tier 1 protections are afforded from the uses specified in 47 CSR 2, Section 6.
A virtual public hearing on the draft application will be held on Monday, March 4th, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. The WVDEP will provide information, answer questions, and accept official comments.

The written comment period closes at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024. All comments submitted by this date, including those provided at the hearing, will be considered prior to the agency issuing its final determination.
