PUBLIC NOTICE

USEPA BROWNFIELD GRANT APPLICATION
By the Hampshire County Development Authority (HCDA)

The HCDA in collaboration with the Hampshire County Commission is announcing plans to submit a 2018 Brownfields Cleanup grant application to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for cleanup of the former Hampshire Memorial Hospital, a 5.6 acre site consisting of parking lots and a 35,000 square-foot, one-story hospital building. The property is located at 549 Center Avenue in Romney. Brownfields are properties that may be abandoned, idle and/or underutilized that are not being redeveloped due to the presence of a hazardous substance.

This application will request USEPA funds to assist with the cleanup of known contamination at locations on the site and resolution of findings from the 2017 Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment. The USEPA encourages public participation in this application process to ensure the community’s awareness and needs are being considered related to the property redevelopment.

A public meeting will be held to foster community involvement, answer questions and obtain comments on Wednesday November 8, from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Hampshire County Courthouse – Commission Chambers located at 66 North High Street in Romney.
