PUBLIC NOTICE

PUBLIC NOTICE The Beckley Sanitary Board (“Board”) presents the following information to its customers and other interested individuals, with respect to its Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) facility. The Board manages, operates and maintains one (1) Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) facility. The CSO is located approximately 800 feet upstream of the confluence of Cranberry Creek and Little Whitestick Creek, which is located in Raleigh County, West Virginia. The exact coordinates of the CSO facility are: Latitude 37 f 47′ 25″ N; Longitude 81 f 10′ 14″ W. The CSO facility is intended to operate only when wet-weather conditions are such that the existing Whitestick Lift Station (a wastewater pumping station) is unable to convey all the flow it receives to, the Piney Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant: During these incidents, the excess flow (which is already screened and de-gritted) diverts to the Chlorination / De-chlorination Facility. The flow is measured and recorded automatically. Following these preliminary treatment processes, the excess flow is then chlorinated and subsequently de-chlorinated automatically. The chlorination process ensures that disease-producing organisms’ are killed; the de-chlorination process ensures that other downstream organisms are not harmed by the chlorine bleach solution previously added to kill bacteria. CSO discharges are measured and sampled for various parameters to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the facility; the results of these data collections are reported to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP). A permanent set of signs has been placed at the location of the CSO outfall. It is identified as: Beckley Sanitary Board; Permit Number WV0023183; Outlet C002. A copy of the WVDEP permit for the CSO facility and map of its location is maintained at the Beckley Sanitary Board office, which is located at 301 South Heber Street, Beckley, West Virginia. Additionally, the current and previous years’ CSO reports are maintained for public inspection at the Board office location. Further CSO information may be obtained by contacting the Board at: (304) 256-1760, or by visiting the Board Office during normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 7-21-TUE-1-RH; L 3215
