Notice of Community Development Block Grant Mitigation Application

The City of Hinton Sanitary Board is obtaining citizen input, public comments, and opinions on the City of Hinton: Bellepoint Park Storm Drain Replacement Project. The $640,000 project consists of replacing an old existing 42-inch storm drainpipe approximately 440 feet in length that is in poor condition and has significantly reduced storm water flow capacity. As a result, during heavy rainfall events, storm water spills out of the existing rip-rap drainage channel at the influent of the existing 42-inch storm drainpipe and floods Miller Avenue and Riverside Drive, prevents access to the Bellepoint Park Little League Baseball Park and Playground, and prevents access to the Bluestone Dam upgrades construction/operations by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractors.

In total the project will benefit approximately 2600 residents, workers, and visitors, by providing continued access for the operation and maintenance of Miller Avenue, Riverside Drive, Bellepoint Park, and Bluestone Dam and make approximately twenty-three acres resilient to flooding. The City of Hinton Sanitary Board intends to apply for funding from the HUD Community Development Block Grant Mitigation Program which has $26,000,000 available for selected eligible applicants in eight distressed and impacted West Virginia counties. Interested citizens are urged to comment.
