NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONVEYANCE
OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY
(Gihon United
Methodist Church)
Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will, on or after November 1, 2024 QUITCLAIM, GRANT and CONVEY to the Trustees of Gihon Church all of their right, title and interest in and to those certain lots or parcels of real estate situate, lying and being in Tygart District, Wood County, West Virginia, described as follows:
PARCEL ONE
BEGINNING at a walnut tree standing by the side of the road between C. G. Barrett’s gate and the forks of the road near Eli Plankinton, running thence N. 54* E. 5 poles to a stone, S. 14* E. 14 poles to a stone, S. 54* W. 5 poles to the E. 5 poles to the said road and with the same N. 14 W. 14 poles to the beginning containing 70 poles.
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church from Caleb G. Barrett and Sarah Barrett his wife, by Deed dated September 9, 1872 and recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Wood County, West Virginia in Deed Book 33, at Page 281, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL TWO
BEGINNING at a walnut and stake on the south side of the gravel road which passes the Gihon church property said walnut and stake facing the road which leads from said gravel road toward Pleasant View Church; thence S. 52 deg. W; 140 feet to a point; thence at right angles N. 38 deg. W. 150 feet to a point; thence at right angles N. 52 deg. E. 140 feet to said gravel road; thence with said gravel road S. 38 deg. E. 150 feet to the place of beginning
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Gihon Episcopal Methodist Church from Harry Nicely and Nell Nicely, his wife by Deed dated March 30, 1926 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 190, at Page 638, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL THREE
BEGINNING at a walnut tree standing by his side of the road between the Caleb G, Barrett gate and the forks of the road near the Eli Plankinton place, and running thence N. 54 E., 5 poles to a stone; thence S. 14 E. 14 poles to a stone; thence S. 54 W. 5 poles to the said road; thence with the said road N. 14 W, 14 poles to the beginning, containing 70 poles, more or less.
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Gihon Methodist Episcopal Church from F. F. Barrett and Etha Barrett, his wife by Deed dated October 1, 1925 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 190, at Page 638, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL FOUR
BEGINNING at a stake (to be replaced, by the grantees, by a permanent monument) in the northeasterly line of Gihon Road at a point N. 34* 06′ W. 42 feet from the point of intersection of the centerline of Lost Pavement Road, if extended to the eastern line of Gihon Road, thence N. 55* 53′ E., with the line of South Hills Golf Course, 135.95 feet to a post (to be replaced, by the grantees, by a permanent monument); thence S. 34* 01 E., with a line of South Hills Golf Course, 150 feet to a post (to be replaced by the grantees, by a permanent monument); thence S. 55* 26′ W., with another line of South Hills Golf Course, 137.2 feet to a stake (to be replaced by the grantees, by a permanent monument) in the eastern line of Gihon Road; thence N. 34* 06′ W. 150 feet to the place of beginning
And being the same property conveyed to the Gihon Methodist Episcopal Church from Helen Irene Smith, Betty Lou Bower and Eugene B. Bower, Helen I. Sarver and Robert Sarver and David C. Smith and Sandra Smith, his wife, by Deed dated June 24, 1961 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 458, at Page 194, reference to which is hereby made.
Said Gihon United Methodist Church was declared closed effective on August 1, 2024 by a majority of the District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
