NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONVEYANCE
OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY (Seventh Street United Methodist Church)
Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will, on or after January 17, 2025 QUITCLAIM, GRANT and CONVEY to the Freedom For Appalachia Community Development Organization all of their right, title and interest in and to those certain lots or parcels of real estate situate, lying and being in the City of Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia, described as follows:
PARCEL ONE
BEGINNING One hundred feet from the west corner of what is or was formerly known as the Stone lot, and running thence with N.W. Turnpike in a westerly course one hundred feet to Briant Street; thence with said Steet towards the Fair Grounds, now the City Park, two hundred and seventy feet to an alley; thence with said alley towards Stone’s Lot one hundred feet; thence at right angles and parallel with Briant Street two hundred and seventy feet to the beginning.
And being the same property conveyed from William Cohen and Amalia Cohen, his wife to Trustees of the Church House of The Church of the United Brethren in Christ, appointed by the Quarterly Conference of Parkersburg Church by Deed dated May 8, 1908 and recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Wood County, West Virginia in Deed Book 149, at Page 639, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL TWO
BEGINNING 100 feet from the west corner of what is or was known as the Stone lot and running thence North Western Turnpike in the Westerly course Forty (40) feet to a stake; thence towards the City Park and parallel with Briant Street One hundred Twenty (120) feet to an alley hereinafter to be provided and left open; thence with said alley in an easterly direction Forty (40) feet to a stake; thence at right angles and parallel with Briant Street, in a southerly direction to the place of beginning, being in all a lot 40 feet by 120 feet.
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees for the Seventh Street United. Brethren Church from Mary C. Lowther, Widow by Deed dated December 29, 1941 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 236, at Page 249, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL THREE
BEGINNING at a point on the northerly side of Seventh Street, 100 feet easterly from a point where the northerly line of said Seventh Street intersects the easterly line of Briant Street, being a common corner of Lots Thirteen (13) and Fourteen (14) of Fairview Addition to the City of Parkersburg, West Virginia; thence running in an easterly direction along the northerly line of Seventh Street a distance of 50 feet to. a point; thence running in a northerly direction along the common lines of Lots Twelve (12) and Thirteen (13) of said Addition, a distance of 113.12 feet to a stake, being the corner of property heretofore conveyed by the said party of the first part to the Trustees the Seventh Street Evangelical United Brethren Church; thence running in a westerly direction a distance of 48.97 feet along the common line of property hereby conveyed and property hereto fore conveyed to the Trustees of said Church; thence running in a southerly direction along the common line of Lots Thirteen (13) and Fourteen (14) of said Addition, a distance of 115.33 feet to Seventh Street, the place of beginning, being the southerly portion of Lot No. Thirteen (13) of said Fairview Addition and the remaining portion of said Lot No. Thirteen (13) now owned by the said party of the first part. Reference is made to a plat of said property of record in the Office of the Clerk of the County Court of Wood County, West Virginia, in Deed Book 429, Page 394.
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Seventh Street Evangelical United Brethren Church of Parkersburg from Flora E. Hammond, Widow by Deed dated October 1, 1963 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 483, at Page 555, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL FOUR
TRACT TWO: Being 0.108 Acre, more particularly described on Exhibit A-2, attached hereto, and also shown on a plat prepared by Pickering and Associates, as recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Wood County, West Virginia in Plat Book 3 at page 75.
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Seventh Street United. Methodist Church from The City of Parkersburg, A West Virginia Public Corporation and the Trustees of the Seventh Street United Methodist Church, previously known as Church House of the Church of United Brethren in Christ, and Seventh Street Evangelical United Brethren Church by Deed dated August 21, 2024 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book at Page reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL FIVE
BEING Lot No. Two of the Burdett Woodyard’s subdivision of Lots Nos. 11 and 12 in Fairview Addition, said lot fronting thirty feet on the westerly side of the Woodyard Avenue, and extending back between parallel lines 105 feet.
And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Seventh Street United Methodist Church from Roy Hannaman and Hazel Hannaman, husband and wife by Deed dated June 28, 1971 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerks Office in Deed Book 588, at Page 406, reference to which is hereby made.
Said Seventh Street United Methodist Church was declared closed effective on August 25, 2024 by a majority of the District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
