NOTICE TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS ATTENDING JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOLS REGARDING WV HEALTHCHECK AND SCHOOL SCREENINGS Below is a list of Health Check and school screening requirements for hearing, vision, speech/language and oral health for the 2025-2026 school year: New students enrolling in Jackson County schools at first entry of either Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) or Kindergarten shall have on file within forty-five (45) days of enrollment or prior to the first day of school attendance, a record of a Health Check screening or other comprehensive health screening comparable to the HealthCheck protocol. Will also need to have a record of an oral health examination. The oral health examination shall be signed and dated by the student’s dental provider and completed within the past twelve (12) calendar months. The following will be screened by a school nurse and speech therapist (if warranted): Students in grades 2, 7, and 12 who do not have a record of a WV HealthCheck screening or other comparable, comprehensive health check creening. All 4th grade students. All students transferring to the Jackson County School System from an out-of-state school. All foreign exchange students. All students with no record of a previous screening, including transfer students for whom records have not been received within two weeks of enrollment. All students needing re-checks from a previous screening. The purpose of the HealthCheck and screenings is to identify those children who may exhibit deficiencies in the above listed areas which may hinder their educational progress. Screenings will be conducted by school nurses and certified, licensed speech therapists.
